Kicking off March with a batch of Oldhammer broo and beastmen.
I also daubed a few of their buddies in fits and starts over the winter.
From left to right we have:
CH4 'Braksh'(1987), blister pack RuneQuest Broo (1983), Box 4 (v2) 'Broo' - these are the ones with the swappable heads (1983), Box 3 (v2) 'Attack of the Broo' (1983), Box 4 (v2) 'Broo' (1983), C27 'Cloven Hoof'' (1985), Box 4a 'The Broo!' (1983), blister pack Broo (1983). Phew!
One reason Citadel were able to pump out so many broo in a relatively short time was the canny reuse of body sculpts with new heads (and in some cases reused heads with new bodies). This particular body was used again (with modifications) for Cloven Hoof from the C27 Chaos Beastmen range.
That takes me up to 20 refurbished '80s broo/beastmen. I couldn't resist taking a progress photo of the herd so far.
Having ranked them up, one thing that occurred to me was the basing looked a little off. I think the mossy tufts looked OK individually, but I'm not sure I like it en masse. I think I'm going to pause basing anymore beastpeople until I've investigated some alternatives. Which means this poor chap will have to wait a while longer. He's a Fiend Factory FF68 Goat-headed Ogre (1982). He may well be the OG beast-guy!
Most excellent work sir!!
ReplyDeleteI think forests are a very valid place for beastmen to linger.
However whilst these are beastmen most excellent, I am minded of the Gotrek and Felix story where they encounter a band of marauding mutants in the foothills and mountain slopes.
These bases to me smell very much of foothills and craggy outcrops just on the edges of some settlement of polite and weak pink skins.
Cheers Mike. 'Geheimnisnacht' has definitely been a big part of the inspiration for this lot. Bill King wrote an absolute banger. I seem to remember the beastmen/mutants in the story being quite keen on inappropriate touching... :o
DeleteThat was a great story, though the mutants I had in mind were the ones that rendered Gotrek a head injury with a sling.
Delete"Geheimnisnacht" Is what I want to do a diorama of at some point, though that will require a lot of conversions and scratcbuilding.
At least I have Gotrek and the Manling.
Ah, the one where Gotrek gets amnesia? I'd forgotten about that story (no pun intended). I'll give that a listen next painting session.
Deleteoooh Johnathan Keeble versions?
DeleteOldhammer Fiction Podcast. Lewis does a brilliant job with the narration. Excellent painting accompaniment.
DeleteAh, well if you get chance / inclination to go down the audible route, Johnathon Keeble, being an actor is completely the voice of Gotrek and Felix, 100% proper.
DeleteThose look great!
ReplyDeleteThank you Mike. There's some either weirder beastmen on their way!
