More March Muties

Despite being insanely busy at the mo', I still managed to hit my goal of finishing off a few more Oldhammer Citadel beastmen before the end of the month.

Age before beauty and all that: I've finally got around to basing the Fiend Factory FF68 Goat-headed Ogre (1982).

The next two are from the C27 Chaos Beastmen range sculpted by Trish Carden back in 1985. I was particularly pleased to pick up 'Kiss of Death' late last year and hope I've done him justice.

While there are a load of ram-headed beastmen out there, 'Axe Wielder' is probably the first lamb-man I've come across.

Finally, this is 'Merd', a CH4 Chaos Beastman from 1987.

He needed a shield so I raided the bitzbox and grabbed him an uruk shield from Ragnarok Miniatures.

All-in-all, I don't think March has been too shabby for painting beast-people.

Hopefully more soon.

  1. I love the sort of muted colour / mythological look that your models have, they feel like illustrations from a medieval bestiary.

    Great to see.

    1. Thanks Mike. I'm convinced that the 'Kiss of Death' sculpt must have been influenced by medieval illustrations of blemmyes.
And thanks for talking me down over on the Forum. I was having one of those wobbles where you think 'this all looks shit' and consider putting several months work into the stripping jar. Wouldn't have been the first time...

    2. Crikey, don't do that.
Even if you don't like things now, they may be just what you are hankering after in the future.

Thing is, if you are happy enough when they are done, then they are fine.

I always TRY to remember what it was like pre-internet.
I would paint stuff and be happy, if my gaming school mates liked it too, so much the better.
But I paint my minis for me, if some random stranger online does not like them or they can paint better then me, then c'est la vie no?

    4. It's the old lead thing, really. I never get too hung up on modern minis - slap some paint on and get 'em on the table - but I always feel a responsibility towards these classics. Have I done them justice? I need to remember what they were like before they were stripped the first time! :D
I should also remember a central tenant of Stillmania - paint it, slap on 3 coats of gloss and move on.
Now I've switched up the basing I've fallen back in love with these horrible critters. Going to make a start on some command figures (I'm cooking up a banner conversion) and maybe have a crack at a centaur or two afterwards.
